About Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based program shown to: Grow knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental illnesses and addictions Can identify multiple types of professional and self-help resources for individuals with a mental illness or addiction Increase confidence when encountering an individual in distress Increased likelihood of helping an individual in distress Show increased mental wellness. Better awareness of signs and symptoms of mental illness increase the likelihood that individuals will seek professional help early. Untreated mental illness is a leading cause of visits to primary care physicians and emergency rooms, missed work and school, and exacerbates chronic conditions such as alcoholism, smoking, obesity, risky behaviors and suicide. Early intervention can improve the overall health of individuals and communities.
