Letter from the Editors

Dear OOTA Members,

The ushering in of a new year often signifies new beginnings and the next chapter in life’s ongoing story. At the same time, it can spur feelings of uncertainty and anxiety–after all, who knows what lies ahead?

For those who may be experiencing that sense of unease, rest assured that the Association has plenty in store to help you navigate whatever challenges may come. With that, we bring you Volume TWO of the newsletter:

A new year means new opportunities…wherever those opportunities may take us. OOTA is not just in Ohio: our members are making an impact around the world. In this issue, read what students and practitioners are saying about their experiences abroad and how those experiences have informed their studies and practice back at home. Carly Kappa, occupational therapy assistant student at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, shares her journey into the occupational therapy profession and what drives her to challenge herself every day to become the best version of herself for her patients and loved ones.

The Association’s new Mentorship Program is a powerful way to equip yourself with the guidance and support necessary to navigate the year ahead. Whether you’re a new practitioner seeking a mentor or an experienced clinician passionate about supporting the next generation, this initiative offers meaningful opportunities to connect and grow. Apply by January 15.

January is a busy and exciting month full of programming designed to enhance your occupational therapy knowledge and skills. With offerings like the Feeding Symposium, Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, and Student Conclave, you’ll find plenty of continuing education and professional development opportunities to start 2026 strong! If you are unable to attend, please read about it in the next edition of the newsletter.

As we step into the new year together, may you feel supported, inspired, and empowered by the strength of our community. We hope this issue serves as a source of inspiration and a reminder that you are part of a vibrant, thriving profession. Thank you for the work you do each day to advance occupational therapy and improve the lives of those you serve. We look forward to learning, growing, and moving forward together in the year ahead!

With Meaning and Purpose,

Kelly and Nathan
