Student Ambassador Role Description

The Ohio Occupational Therapy Association (OOTA) Student Ambassador Program is designed to connect occupational therapy (OT) and occupational therapy assistant (OTA) students across Ohio with OOTA’s mission of advocacy, education, leadership, and professional engagement.

Student Ambassadors serve as liaisons between OOTA and their academic programs, helping to increase student involvement, promote professional development opportunities, share the impact of occupational therapy, and contribute multimedia content that highlights the innovative work occurring throughout Ohio’s OT and OTA programs.

Ambassadors will expand their professional network, strengthen their understanding of state association engagement, and play a key role in advancing the visibility of occupational therapy throughout Ohio.

Student Ambassadors will work closely with the OOTA Social Media & Public Relations Chair throughout their term.

The Student Ambassador Program seeks to:

  • Increase student awareness of OOTA and its benefits
  • Strengthen connections between OT/OTA programs and OOTA
  • Increase student participation in OOTA events and initiatives
  • Highlight student achievements, research, service projects, and leadership activities
  • Expand OOTA’s social media reach and engagement
  • Develop future OOTA leaders and volunteers

Timeline

Application Period: August 31 – October 9

Onboarding/Training: TBD; November 2026

Program Launch/Duration: January – June 2027

Time Commitment

Approximately ~2-3 hours per month:

  • 1 hour Initial Orientation (November 2026)
  • Monthly Content Creation and Promotion (January through June 2027)
  • Monthly synchronous/asynchronous check-ins (January through June 2027)

Most responsibilities can be completed virtually and integrated into existing student activities.

Ambassador Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Promotion | Student Ambassadors will:
      1. Submit at least one piece of content per month highlighting activities within their OT or OTA program
      2. Share information about student events, service projects, research initiatives, capstone projects, fieldwork experiences, and professional development activities
      3. Assist with promoting OOTA events, educational opportunities, and conference announcements
      4. Encourage classmates and faculty to engage with OOTA social media channels
      5. Examples of content submissions may include:
        • Photos from student events
        • Research presentations or posters
        • Community outreach projects
        • Advocacy activities
        • Student organization initiatives
        • Capstone projects
        • Program achievements
        • Student success stories
  • Social Media Engagement | Ambassadors are encouraged to:
    1. Engage with OOTA social media content by liking, commenting, and sharing posts
    2. Help amplify key organizational messages
    3. Promote OOTA campaigns and initiatives within their programs
    4. Participate in designated engagement campaigns throughout the year
  • Program Representation
      1. Ambassadors serve as representatives of both their academic program and OOTA.
      2. Responsibilities include:
        • Sharing information about OOTA opportunities with classmates
        • Serving as a point of contact between OOTA and their program
        • Providing feedback regarding student interests and needs
        • Helping identify opportunities for student involvement
  • Student Spotlight Participation | Ambassadors may be asked to:
      1. Participate in student spotlight features
      2. Nominate fellow students for recognition
      3. Assist with identifying innovative student projects and achievements
  • Optional Leadership Opportunities | Interested ambassadors may also:
    1. Participate in social media takeovers
    2. Assist with conference promotion efforts
    3. Contribute blog articles or professional reflections
    4. Volunteer with OOTA committees or special projects
    5. Assist with the Road to Columbus 2028 initiative

Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • Be currently enrolled in an Ohio OT or OTA program
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for occupational therapy and professional involvement
  • Maintain good standing within their academic program
  • Possess strong communication and professionalism skills
  • Be willing to serve as a positive representative of both OOTA and their institution

Prior leadership or social media experience is welcomed but not required.
