This short course will discuss why handwriting is still relevant in the 21st century and how addressing this vital skill falls within the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. We will briefly cover empirical and neuroscientific research on why the shift needs to be back to basics, strategies to embed handwriting across the curriculum.
Objectives:
- Discuss and explain the research and reasons why handwriting instruction must be brought back to the curriculum.
- Identify 3-4 most and least effective ways to improve legibility
- Describe 2-3 strategies to collaborate with teachers and embed handwriting sensibility across the curriculum
