How Clinicians Can Move Knowledge Into Practice and Lead Meaningful Change

Course Description

Providing evidence-based, high-quality care is a core value in occupational therapy, but translating evidence into clinical practice can be challenging. Clinicians often face barriers including limited time, difficulty accessing and evaluating research, competing priorities, and insufficient organizational support. This session will introduce a practical framework for moving evidence into practice. The presenter will draw on experience supporting an evidence-based practice (EBP) program in a pediatric hospital setting to share strategies for identifying barriers, finding relevant resources, engaging colleagues, and facilitating practice change. Participants will reflect on barriers within their own settings and identify ways to promote EBP from their current roles. They will leave with practical next steps for becoming an EBP champion and beginning an evidence-based change initiative in their own practice setting.

Speaker

Jessalyn is a pediatric outpatient occupational therapist and Evidence-Based Practice Coordinator at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. With over a decade of experience, she mentors clinicians and leads initiatives that bridge research and everyday practice. She holds AOTA board certification in pediatrics and has advanced training in Ayres Sensory Integration, which she uses to better understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and participation needs. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in play and authentic connection, creating a safe and engaging environment where children feel confident and motivated to participate. Jessalyn is known for her creativity, adaptability, and deep commitment to lifelong learning as she continually refines her practice in an evolving field.
