Course Description

Occupational therapy practitioners are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between systemic anatomical dysfunction and functional independence for clients with connective tissue disorders. However, recognizing and managing the complex, multi-systemic nature of Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) remains a significant clinical challenge.

This session provides a comprehensive framework for identifying key physical presentations and systemic symptoms of hEDS/HSD to improve early recognition and diagnostic triaging. This foundational knowledge will support a deeper dive into the core strength of occupational therapists and their skills to support patients with holistic management of symptoms. Attendees will identify specific holistic OT approaches to managing the diverse symptoms associated with hypermobility and how to view care through a functional, client-centered lens. Within a whole-person approach, we will connect hypermobility and pelvic/sexual health. Participants will identify common pelvic floor concerns in this population and develop easy-to-implement, effective treatment strategies.  Practitioners will be more equipped to optimize daily life and long-term wellness for their hypermobile clients.
