Course Description

This 3-hour pre-conference course introduces occupational therapy practitioners to the fascial system as a dynamic interface between structure, nervous system regulation, and functional performance. Rather than approaching myofascial release as an isolated manual technique, this session positions fascia within a broader systems-based model of clinical reasoning.

Grounded in Dynamic Systems Theory, participants will explore how fascial restrictions may influence movement, postural control, respiration, and regulation across the lifespan. The course includes a focused hands-on component, allowing participants to learn and practice select, high-yield myofascial techniques targeting the shoulder girdle and rib cage. Emphasis is placed on immediate clinical application, supporting translation of hands-on strategies into functional, occupation-based outcomes.

This course is informed by current literature describing the fascial system as a sensory-rich, communicative network contributing to proprioception, movement coordination, and nervous system regulation. Drawing from research in fascia, motor control, and occupational therapy, the content integrates principles of systems-based practice to support clinical decision-making across pediatric and adult populations. The session emphasizes practical application, helping clinicians bridge the gap between emerging evidence and everyday therapeutic practice while expanding their capacity to address complex, multi-system presentations.
