Letter from the Editors
Dear Readers,
We are excited to share this latest issue of the OOTA newsletter with you. This edition highlights the practice, advocacy, and innovation shaping occupational therapy across Ohio while showcasing the adaptations, leadership, and impact being made by practitioners, educators, and students throughout our state.
Policy and advocacy remain central to our profession’s future. In this issue, we highlight key policy matters affecting OT and share reflections from this year’s Hill Day activities. Members from across Ohio gathered at the Statehouse to connect with legislators, share the value of occupational therapy, and advocate for the clients and communities we serve. It was an inspiring reminder that our collective voice has the power to influence policy and advance our profession. We hope these stories inspire you to stay engaged in legislative efforts at both the state and national levels.
You’ll also find creative, practice-ready perspectives on activities of daily living (ADLs). These innovative approaches remind us that ADLs are never simply “routine” for our clients; they are deeply personal and meaningful occupations that can be supported in flexible, individualized ways across settings and populations.
In addition, this issue features a variety of clinical and professional perspectives, including an article exploring the use of virtual reality in occupational therapy from a capstone student at Cleveland State University, as well as a feature highlighting the role of mental health in occupational therapy practice. We are also pleased to showcase innovative educational programming that is helping prepare the next generation of OT and OTA practitioners through intraprofessional collaboration and experiential learning opportunities.
As we look ahead, excitement is building for the OOTA Annual Conference this October in Columbus. This issue includes updates from our conference planning team and serves as a reminder that one of the year’s most anticipated opportunities for learning, networking, and professional growth is just around the corner.
We appreciate the opportunity to provide this newsletter each quarter and are grateful for the many writers who contribute their time, expertise, and perspectives. We hope this issue informs, inspires, and energizes you as we continue advancing occupational therapy together.
Best,
Kelly and Nathan
