Description:

This course focuses on using data, research, and inclusive frameworks to address health disparities and inequities in occupational therapy. Participants will examine demographic trends and social determinants of health, integrate DEI-informed evidence into practice, and develop a practical plan for applying inclusive, evidence-based approaches to improve equitable client outcomes.

Objectives:

• Interpret local and national demographic trends, disparities, and determinants of health to identify inequities affecting occupational engagement and client outcomes.
• Integrate DEI-related evidence into occupational therapy practices to ensure equitable outcomes.
• Examine key inclusive frameworks to inform the therapeutic process while working with diverse client populations.
• Develop a plan for incorporating best practices, considerations, and frameworks into their practice.

Presenter Bios:

Grayson Owens, OTD, OTR/L, is an Assistant Professor at the Pacific University School of Occupational Therapy. He is originally from Fort Smith, Arkansas, but now lives in Portland, Oregon. Grayson primarily works with older adults in the community and has experience in home health, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient. Grayson’s scholarship focuses on the lived experiences and workplace environments of LGBTQIA2S+ OTPs.
