North Coast District Mental Health SIS 2 Contact Hour Event
"Yoga for Chronic Pain: A Holistic Approach to Pain Management and Associated Mental Health Disorders"
Presenter: Dana Hinebaugh, MOT, OTR/L
When: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 6-8 pm
Where: UH Customer Service Center (CSC) 20800 Harvard Road  Highland Hills, Ohio

"The body benefits from movement and the mind benefits from stillness."

A considerable amount of health care dollars are spent on the treatment of lifestyle-related chronic health conditions, including chronic pain. Chronic pain is multidimensional and affects individuals physically, emotionally, and socially. Through the practice of yoga poses, paired with the rhythmic movement of the breath, a relaxation response of the body is elicited which leads to physiological as well as mental changes in the body.

Yoga has been shown to decrease stress, relieve mild depression and anxiety, and increase focus. Additionally, Yoga has been shown to enhance awareness of self, emotional awareness, and spirituality.

Objectives:

  1.  Participant will identify at least 2 ways Yoga assists in decreasing stress, anxiety, and/or pain.
  2.  Attendee will demonstrate up to 3 Yoga poses to incorporate into everyday treatment to improve physical and emotional health.
