About Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based program shown to:  Grow knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental illnesses and addictions  Can identify multiple types of professional and self-help resources for individuals with a mental illness or addiction  Increase confidence when encountering an individual in distress  Increased likelihood of helping an individual in distress  Show increased mental wellness. Better awareness of signs and symptoms of mental illness increase the likelihood that individuals will seek professional help early. Untreated mental illness is a leading cause of visits to primary care physicians and emergency rooms, missed work and school, and exacerbates chronic conditions such as alcoholism, smoking, obesity, risky behaviors and suicide. Early intervention can improve the overall health of individuals and communities.

The WCOOTA is beginning a mentorship program! We are eager to start this program to provide insight and support to new practitioners as well as experienced clinicians.

Pursing a mentoring relationship is more than networking or checking a box on a career plan.
  • Mentoring can aid in collaboration to provide effective and goal directed treatments
  • Mentors can provided recommendations based on his or her prior experience with workplace challenges
  • Lastly, mentors can provide clear and direct communication and feedback, delivered with respect and support.
Please follow the link below to be matched with a mentor or mentee.
